12132 17 Gray Barkcloth Toweling

FUN FACTS: Towels were invented in Turkey in the 17th century. Cotton Barkcloth first became popular in the 1940s for use in home decor.

So what is “barkcloth”? It’s a soft, thick, slightly textured fabric made of densely woven cotton fi bers. Though it was traditionally used for home furnishings, modern sewists are using it for clothing, accessories and small home décor items. Part of our new Pure & Natural category, Moda Barkcloth will be available as 16” toweling and 45” wide yardage. Use the 16” width to make kitchen towels or a table runner that feel like vintage linen, and use the 45” width to make tote bags, pillows, jackets and other clothing items. Both widths would have an excellent background for wool and traditional applique.
