Maryland by Kathy Schmitz for Moda Fabrics

Like many artists, I love different creative forms and how they can influence my art. Baltimore Album applique quilts, and the rich detailing of woodblock prints are two very different art forms that have much in common. Both are a labor of love that take time and skill to create. My love for both, and the desire to combine them, are what inspired me to design Maryland. While I have yet to master applique, and my art school woodblock days are far behind me, I used pen and ink to create my own take on their marriage.
