Intro to Visible Mending, Sashiko and Boro

This beginner class will teach the basics of Visible Mending, Sashiko and Boro stitching. The instructor is Pam “Pamalama Jo” McHenry. She is no stranger to hand stitiching, embroidery and applique and teaching others.

Simply put,
Boro is repairing and patching textiles using layers of fabrics and running stitches.

Sashiko is also running stitches but it is designed to form patterns and it is used to strengthen clothing and improve durability.

While both are functional, they are also beautiful and that’s how we will be using these techniques. We will have a kit for you with the fabrics, threads and needles to stitch and complete a 12x12 drawstring bag.

There are 2 class days (10 hours of class time) and you will need to do stitch homework between the classes.

Bring scissors, small and medium, for cutting threads and fabrics. You can also bring a few of your favorite scraps of linen, silk or wools that you may want to add to your project. Also bring any fabric marking pens or pencils you may have. There will be group/sharing marking pens/pencils if you don’t have any.

Class Time: 10:30 to 3:30  - Because this is an all-day class, come prepared with a sack lunch or snack to energize you throughout the day.  We have a refrigerator and microwave and coffee maker (and K-cups) in the classroom so you can bring a lunch or a snack.
