1/9/21 & 1/16/21 Two Part Free Motion Quilting Class - 10am-1pm
Week 1
Learn how to set up your machine, prepare your quilt and how to move it as you learn the basic steps of free motion quilting. Stitches to be demonstrated and practiced include stippling, meandering, loops, curls, hearts, flowers, and leaves.

| Needles | Schmetz Topstitch needle, size 14/90 - sometimes quilting needles will work, it depends on your machine |
| Thread | 40 or 50 weight cotton thread - Aurifil, Gutterman, Mettler, YLI, or King Tut Prepare several bobbins with the different color thread than top A contrasting color thread from your quilt sandwich is helpful |
| Quilt Sandwich | 3 or 4 quilt sandwiches - 16 inches or bigger A solid color is best so you can see your stitches and contrasting from the thread The batting may be cotton, silk, or wool 100% polyester is difficult to work with |
| Basic Sewing Supplies | Scissors Ruler Paper Pencil Sense of humor and lots of patience! |
Week 1 homework - Using the 3 block designs in the book - Free-motion Quilting Idea Book - or your own block designs, make a table runner. Make it into a quilt sandwich with the batting and backing.
Week 2
Bring the same supplies you brought to Week 1, including your table runner quilt sandwich and the book you received in the first class.
In class, you'll be quilting your table runner!
